Waterloo Wellington Learning Alliance Workshop  Wednesday, April 23rd, 20146 pm to 9 pm Board Governance 2.0 -Taking Your Board Involvement to the Next Level will cover the benefits of an outward focused orientation to the community, how to adopt an invitational approach to community engagement and understanding the connection between your organization’s mission, vision and values and the needs and aspirations of the community. Facilitated by Gayle Valeriote at Volunteer Centre of Guelph/Wellington, 46 Cork St. E., Guelph $45 for member organizations, $59 for non-member organizations For more information, or to register, click here.

 

The ChangeTheWorld: Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge is entering its 7th year across the province and HERE in KW at our volunteer centre. The 6-week campaign has one goal: get high school students to volunteer in their community. 

The CLICK in the WIN campaign is ready to recognize youth started this week during National Volunteer Week from April 6 and runs until May 19, 2014. Let us know what YOUth are up to! Visit our YOUTH PAGE for more!  

 

 NETWORKS & RESOURCES

YWCA will begin its On The Move program at the Stanley Park Community Centre on April 14th, and runs until May 16th. On The Move is a FREE, Girls-Only program for ages 12-17. Activities include Zumba, Yoga, Vollyball, Dance and More. Register in person at the Community Centre or by phone at 519-741-2504. Spots also still availailabe at the Williamsburg Community Centre location. Come out, be active and make new friends.

 

Deepening Community: Finding Joy in Chaotic Times. On Wednesday April 23rd from 7-9pm, you are invited to help Tamarack launch the release of Paul Born's new book, Deepening Community: Finding Joy in Chaotic Times. We will gather for a night of fun at a wonderful community hub in your area, at Conrad Grebel University College (at the University of Waterloo). For more information and to RSVP for the event click here.

 

Canadian Federation of University Women presents the Turn Old Books Into New Futures event. The book sale will be held on Friday, April 25 from 9 a.m. till 9 p.m. and Saturday, April 26 from 9 a.m. till 1 p.m. This event will be located at the First United Church at King and William, Waterloo. The May Court Club is having a fundraiser its 'Homes for Special Care' Camp Fund. The Waterloo Regional Police Male Chorus will be performing on April 26th at First United Church at 7 pm.

 

Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation Awards Application The Kitchener and Waterloo Community Foundation is seeking applications to be awarded from the International Plowing Match Fund and the Woolwich Community Fund this spring. The International Plowing Match Fund deadline is Friday, April 25th at noon. The deadline for the Woolwich Community Fund is Friday, May 16th at noon. VOLM1170 - Volunteer Management: Understanding and Supporting Boards on Saturday April 26 with Gayle Valeriote. This session provides a basic understanding of the role, responsibilities and functioning of the Board. The Volunteer Management Cycle will be used to identify best practices in board member recruitment and retention. Young Leader Award PAVR-O is introducing a new award to recognize and encouarage young leaders in Volunteer Engagement. The award acknowledges a professional, aged 30 years or younger who is working directly in the profession and has demonstrated leadership and excellence in Volunteer Engagement. Do you know a young leader who is inspires you with their excellence in the profession? Stress Free Community The Spirtitual Herritage Educational Network Inc. is holding a free, 4 week workshop, beginning Wednesday May 7th, entitled TRAIN YOUR BRAIN to Breathe Deep for Health and Wellness. The purpose of these workshops is to train you in this practise of breathing which helps you lower your stress and enhance your state of wellbeing. For more information and to register click here.

 

Libro Credit Union Community Builder Grant Information Session Wednesday May 7th, 5:30-7:00pm - Libro Credit Union's Community Builder Grant Program supports community development projects that give youth the opportunity to develop leadership and career skills. This year the Community Builder Grant Program will invest approximately $560 000 to support programs that give young people the opportunity to develop leadership and career skills. VOLM1150 Volunteer Management: Understanding and Resolving Conflict on Saturday May 24 with Reva Cooper. This workshop provides participants with a basic understanding of sources of conflict, and identifies key theories and personal skills to help resolve conflict. Dealing with difficult volunteers and areas of potential conflict between volunteers and paid staff will be addressed. The Prime Minister's Volunteer Awards were created in 2011 to annually recognize the huge contribution that volunteers make to Canada. You are able to nominate individuals, not-for-profit organizations and businesses who make exceptional voluntary contributions. There are a total of 17 awards given at both the regional and national level. The current call for nominations opened on February 27 and runs until May 9, 2014. The 16th Annual Empty Bowls Event on Thursday, May 8th, 2014 held at the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. & 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale Tuesday April 1 at 11 am and are $40 for lunch and dinner sittings. Tickets can be purchased in the Gallery Shop located at 25 Caroline Street North, Waterloo or by calling the Gallery at 519-746-1882.
