Position: Mentoring Volunteer - In-School Mentor
Location: Elementary schools in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and the surrounding Townships. Specific location determined by volunteer preference and school availability. BBBSWR main office: 30 Duke Street West, Unit 302, Kitchener, Ontario, N2H 3W5
Impact Statement: 88% of youth in our In-School Mentoring program show improved literacy skills.
Description: In just one hour a week, you can be a role model and friend to a child in Grades 1 through 8 as an In-School Mentor. The program takes place at a local elementary school (the specific school is based on the volunteer’s location), during school hours (the specific hour is based on the volunteer’s schedule). In-School Mentoring volunteers are matched with one child and engage in activities such as board games, sports, crafts or just hanging out in the playground. It's a small commitment that makes a BIG difference! We are now accepting volunteer applications for January 2018.
Requirements: Confidentiality
Training Details: Our volunteers receive orientation, training and on-going support.
Duration: 4 - 6 months
Timing: Weekday - Daytime
Time Detail: In-School Mentors meet with a mentee for one hour each week at the child’s school (between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm). Specific school location determined by volunteer preference and school availability.
Age: 18+
