Position: Tech Tutor

Impact Statement: Are you interested in technology? Do you enjoy helping others with computer questions? Tech Tutors is a program that matches tech savvy volunteers with customers seeking one-on-one technology help. Our goal is to show adults and seniors how to use their computers, tablets, or phones to feel comfortable with technology.

Volunteers have a demonstrated interest in computers and technology; the ability to explain computer concepts and ideas to others; an interest in helping others learn about technology; excellent communication skills and a positive attitude; the ability work cooperatively with others; the ability
to respond to questions in a patient and polite manner.
Description: Each Tech Tutor brings to the position their own interests and abilities. Tutors are not instructors - rather, they are passionate youth from the community willing to donate their time to help others improve their computer literacy. Volunteers:

Interact with the customer in a friendly manner and establish a rapport
Work independently to demonstrate technology or respond to individual computer questions
Troubleshoot common computer problems
Refer to staff when necessary
Keep customer/library information confidential
Requirements: English Proficiency, Confidentiality
Training Details: We provide an orientation to Kitchener Public Library and specific training on the tools available.
Working Conditions: Tech Tutors is scheduled in Studio Central at the Central Library.
Duration: 4 - 6 months
Timing: Weekday - Evening
Time Detail: Volunteers are scheduled every Thursday evening 6 - 8 pm for a minimum of 4 months. Or volunteers can be scheduled every other Thursday, if preferred.
