Position: Treasurer - Board of Directors
Location: 65 Hanson Avenue, Kitchener, ON, Canada
Impact Statement: Every year, at Bereaved Families of Ontario – Midwestern Region, we help individuals and families who are grieving the death of a loved one through our peer grief programs, one-on-one support matches and memorial events. Our programs support families and individuals who are experiencing one of the most profoundly difficult times in their lives. With your involvement, you are helping the healing begin.
Description: - Develop and enforce strong internal controls and financial management policies
- Work with the Executive Director to develop annual budgets
- Ensure accurate and complete financial reporting and proper maintenance of financial records and information/tax returns
- Regularly assess risks and whether and how such risks should be mitigated
- Keep a calendar of filing requirements and deadlines and have clear assignments (with backups) to help ensure they are all met in a timely manner
- Have the organization’s financials audited whenever required or advisable

Perform financial administrative duties, including:
- Update monthly financials and prepare profit and loss statements for monthly board meetings
- Calculate bi-weekly payroll and submit payroll remittance
- Create and submit yearly T4s to CRA
- Complete and submit annual T3010 Information return to CRA
- Complete and submit HST rebate twice/year
- Adhoc requests as required
Training Details: Training will be completed by the Board Chair, Executive Director and current Board Treasurer
Duration: 3 months or less
Timing: Weekday - Evening
Time Detail: It is expected that the time commitment will be approximately one day per month. Board meetings are held monthly from January to June and September to November with committee meetings in the interim (schedule to be determined). Special meetings may be called at the discretion of the Executive Director or the Chair. Between Board meetings, members are asked to actively work on their committee projects to ensure activities are proceeding according to schedules.
