Position: Program Assistant - Community Alzheimer Program (KW)
Location: 247 Franklin Street North, Kitchener, ON, Canada
Impact Statement: Volunteers assist staff in our Community Alzheimer Program to interact with clients and provide an enjoyable day out for them. Gain experience in dealing with people who have dementia.
Description: The Community Alzheimer Program is an adult day program for persons living in the community who have Alzheimer's disease. Volunteers are needed to assist clients with program activities and over mealtime. Patience, maturity and good listening skills are an asset. Weekly commitment required.
Positions are available at all three sites: our Franklin st. site in Kitchener, as well as our program at 150 Main Street in Cambridge, and at our program at University Gates in Waterloo.
Requirements: English Proficiency, Confidentiality, Specialized Training, Work Without Supervision
Training Details: Volunteers are required to attend a volunteer orientation session. Another 1 hour training on assisting residents over mealtime are also required if assisting with meals.
Working Conditions: The Community Alzheimer Program takes place at Sunnyside. The volunteer may be required to walk with clients at various times, or deal with challenging behaviours of clients.
Duration: 7 - 12 months
Timing: Weekday - Daytime, Weekday - Evening
Time Detail: Kitchener Program requires a Tuesday daytime (9:30 - 2:30) volunteer and a Thursday evening volunteer(4:15 – 7:00 p.m), and the Cambridge and Waterloo programs require weekday half day volunteers (Monday to Friday, 9:00– 12:30 and 12:30 – 3:30)
