Position: Administrative Assistant - The Solidarity Alliance

Impact Statement: The Solidarity Alliance (SA), a subcommittee of the Rainbow Community Council (RCC), is a working group that strives to increase safe access to services for LGBTQ+ newcomers in the Waterloo Region. We are committed to working from a perspective that includes the complex needs of LGBTQ newcomers, which intersect with status, culture, sexuality and gender, among others.
Description: The SA is seeking qualified volunteers for the position of Administrative Assistant. The ideal candidate is a highly organized and self-motivated individual with an aptitude for written and verbal communication, great interpersonal skills, and a strong passion for social justice / community development initiatives.

Key accountabilities of the position include:
Attending monthly meetings of the SA and taking minutes
Coordinating with SA members to schedule monthly meetings and set agendas
Monitoring the official SA email account and sending emails on behalf of co-chairs, as needed
Assisting SA members with drafting and editing content for the quarterly newsletter, and/or website, as needed

Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate familiarity with or sensitivity to the needs of LGBTQ+ individuals and/or newcomers to Canada.
Training Details: The Administrative Assistant will be trained by and will report to the SA co-chairs.
Working Conditions: The administrative assistant will primarily be supporting us in office environments (with desks, chairs) at various locations within Kitchener and Waterloo; some work from home may also be required. They will need to use their own laptop or similar device for note-taking/record-keeping.
Duration: More than 1 year
Timing: Weekday - Daytime, Weekday - Evening
Time Detail: We are ideally looking for a year-long commitment ranging between 4 to 16 volunteer hours per month (or 1 to 4 hours per week), which includes time spent in meetings. The ideal volunteer should be able to accommodate variability in the workload, which tends to be higher during weeks when meetings, events or publications are scheduled.
